Avoid the long lines, take care of your library business NOW!  All library books will be due no later than May 31, and textbook return will be the following week.<br><br>The 2012 Summer Olympics start in July, but they're already going strong in the library.  Come get a book about all the different Olympic sports, or about famous Olympic athletes of the past.  Look for the Olympic rings on the library display!  And let the games begin!<br><br>Attention all 8th graders who are interested in running for Freshman Class Officer at SPHS. There is a mandatory informational meeting on Tuesday, May 22nd at lunch in room 216. Please bring your lunch and arrive on time so that we can get through the information quickly. Also please remember that any campaigning outside of campaign week is strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification. This includes advertising your intention to run on Facebook or asking students to vote for you during brunch or lunch. Please make sure you attend the informational meeting to pick up an election packet.<br><br>8th graders:  If you are interested in representing this year’s class as a promotion speaker, please come to the library computer lab at 2:30pm today, May 21st to try out at the speech-writing contest. Come and give it a try!<br>  <br>SPMS Track team picture will be taken Monday, May 21st right after school at 2:25 pm.  Meet on the steps for the Old Gym.  Wear your SPMS track T-shirt and bring your uniform if you still have it.<br>Thinking of applying to be on the Yearbook staff?  There will be an informational meeting Wednesday, May 23rd during your lunch in Room 107.  Bring you lunch, and your questions!<br><br>Any 8th grade students interested in auditioning to perform the national anthem at promotion or performing a musical presentation at promotion please see Mr. Macomber by Tuesday, May 22 to register for an audition. We are looking for two amazing students to represent this year's class as our promotion speakers. If you are interested in this opportunity, please come to the library computer lab at 2:30pm Monday, May 21st to try out at the speech-writing contest. You will have 45 minutes to write a rough draft of a speech. The top two rough drafts will be selected. Mrs. Jenkins and Mr. Miller will then work with those two students on revising and finalizing their speeches to present at Promotion. Come and give it a try!<br><br>This week's Library Boxtop Raffle winners are.......SOPHIA ISMAEL, SCOTT KAWAKAMI, and KEVIN TOM!  Come on up to the library and choose your free book prize.  It might be 85 degrees outside, but we're enjoying a Boxtop Blizzard in the library!  Every boxtop earns us CASH!  So clip your boxtops, write your ID number of the back, and put them in the office collection box. Your library appreciates your support!<br><br>There is a meeting at lunch today for those who are going on the France and Spain Tour this summer in Room 114. Go South Pasadena Public Library!  That's right, the library is hosting a fabulous author night, TONIGHT, starting at 7:00 p.m.  in the Community Room on El Centro Street.  Come hear about Hall of Famer and famous team owner Bill Veeck,  and about African Americans who broke the baseball color line.  You can buy an autographed copy of the books, and listen to some great live blues music!  It's all happening tonight at South Pasadena Public Library.  Check it out.<br><br>Happy Birthday, Gary Paulsen!  If you remember rooting for Brian as he tried to survive his plane-crash-in-the-wilderness experience in the book Hatchet, there's more!!  Read The River to find out if Brian agrees to go through his ordeal again.  Brian's Winter tells the Hatchet story with a different ending.  Gary Paulsen has written lots of great fiction, and read about his own life in his autobiography called Guts.
